Yesterday we went hiking in Huldenberg, a village between Brussels and Tervuren. It was our first hike since we were back from Switzerland and we found it a bit boring. Our excursion was set out to be one of 20 kms, but we’ve cut it short to 14km and even then, we thought it was too long. Perhaps we were spoiled in the mountains, having yaw-dropping views at every corner, walking on the top of mountains and along cascading cliffs. This is very bad news for our walking habits. With only 6 weeks to go before we set out for Asia, we can use all of the training that we can get.
We’ve recently discovered the pleasure of hiking along white and red signs across the country. If you ever go outside in Belgium, you’ve certainly noticed them and wondered: what is this. Well, they’re indication for walking trails and they’re are absolutely great!
We’ve done quite a few of them in the past months and there’s one that we’re trying to follow for a longer period: the GR 12. By longer period, i mean that we walk about 20-30kms of it, but always return back to our starting point and our car. So we’re not progressing all that fast

I had never heared of Bisses and thought it simply meant “kiss” in French. But appearantly, Bisses are also walking roads, found in a certain part of Switzerland, more commonly known as the Valais. (Continue…)
While driving to Switzerland i stopped at a small place called Heiligenstein, located in the French Alsace. As always, i was looking for a decent grab of food and was lucky enough to enjoy a local festival which brought out two of the greatest specialities of the region: Tarte Flambée and Klevener.
The first one is a sort of Pizza made of cheese, creme ognions and bacon, which is baked in an oven over open flames (so it’s not really flambé as with liquor and so).
Klevener on the other hand is a fruity wine, which at first tastes really too much like lemonade but you get really addicted to it after a couple of glasses
Chambre d’Hôtes near Heiligenstein. Stayed there for one night with a lovely family who let us stay in their master bedroom and had a delicious breakfast with self-made confitures.
