Ni Hao

After 12 hours of flights (and almost NO delays!) we arrived in Beijing, capital of China. Contrary to what we read, we didn’t have a culture shock and felt right at home. It took Gregory about 1 hour to find the first restaurant and dig in for some dumplings :) (Continue…)

Last…

Now that we are almost leaving it is time for every last time we do this or that! (or at least for the next 6 months)

Yesterday it was my last day @ work. I’ve finished all  my work (read: I’ve dropped everything on my colleague Sara’s desk), I said goodbye to everyone (read: my colleagues organised me a drink), I finished my to do list (read: I never make a list so it was very easy to finish it), …

GR 12 Ronquières to Ecaussines

P1000451  Today we continue where we left off in Ronquières near the inclining plateau. This part of the GR 12 is very pleasant and i would recommend it any sunny sunday walk. Bring along your friends and family, there’s not many hills and you can easily scale the trip to fit your own capacities.

We are blessed with excellent weather on this late September day and a lot of fellow hikers have taken to the paths. The route goes up the canal to the impressive concrete tower and then turns into the fields. It’s harvesting time and the corn fields are waiting for the farmers. (Continue…)

Golden Week

This week is the Golden Week Holidays in China. During this period, over a billion people have the week off and take the opportunity to travel and visit the Chinese cities. Beijing has seen no less than 300.000 tourists on the first day of the National Holiday and Shanghai expects a baffling 4.2 million visitors during the entire week.

… and that’s why we decided to leave next week and not this week ;)

How to present Belgium?

While we’re in Asia, we’ll be discovering their culture and their cities. But how can we bring a little bit of Belgium to Asia? Our goal is to have a small stash of objects (preferably photographs) that we can show to the people we encounter to explain what our home country is about. We want to show them that we do not all live in big Dallas-”the tv show”-style villa’s, that we don’t all drive big Mercedes and don’t eat with golden teaspoons. But we do want to show our day to day life, the resemblances and the differences with their own habits (we’re already taking a fork with us ;) ).

Tell us (using the post a reply box) what you would take to present Belgium to other people.
