Myanmar Wrap-Up

Pagodas and Tea Leaf Salad

Myanmar, the country formerly known as Burma, has been the scene of some rebel actions the last months. Why? Because the price for gazoline is going through the roof and the military regime (who has been voted out already years ago, but refuses to make way for the new democratic regime) does nothing to help its people.

While some might consider this reason enough not to visit this country, we are very happy that we did so and especially that we did so in this period. (Continue…)

First impressions of Yangon

Welcome to Myanmar

Wauw… we only arrived here yesterday morning and I already adore this city! After being welcomed on the airport by the most friendly and smiling people we felt right comfortable in this city. What surprised us most is the fact that almost everything that we know as Chinese food in Belgium, actually is Indonesian. You have the typical “belgium chinese take away” dishes like Nasi Goreng, Bami Goreng, Chicken Sweet and Sour, all originated in Indonesia. (Continue…)

Solo’s little “pabriks”

A local handicraft bicycle tour

P1020346After enjoying the art of doing nothing in Bali the last couple of days it is time to start travelling back to Jakarta. As we did not want to fly (why fly and go fast if you can do it slow :), we decided to travel back over land and make a stopover in Solo.

There is not much to see in the center of Solo so we took a guide to show us around the suburbs and their local handicrafts “pabriks”.
Akus (our guide) joined us on a cycling tour to discover several handicrafts.
