Elba is bij de Belgen vooral gekend als het italiaanse eiland waar Napoleon in ballingschap verbleef. Als wandelbestemming moet het in populariteit mijlenver onderdoen voor zijn grote buur, Corisca, maar dat betekent niet dat Elba minder mooi is.
Wij gingen 4 dagen het eiland verkennen en namen de Grande Traversata Elbana (de grote doorsteek van Elba) als leidraad. Er is online bitter weinig informatie te vinden over deze wandelingen, dus zullen we ze hier wat uitvoeriger bespreken voor de andere liefhebbers.

Brussels is a fantastic city. It’s jampacked with cultural heritage and inspiring sights and is easily visited by foot. Most of the people, will follow their tourist guide or worse, take one of the tour busses that will drive you through all the “must see’s”. We’re going for the low down approach and are following the GR 12 and GR 126 across Belgium’s capital.

Kaap-Verdië bestaat uit zo’n 10-tal eilanden elk met zijn zeer specifieke flora. Van droge, dorre boel tot frisgroene, bijna mediterraanse vegetatie. We profiteerden van ons verblijf op Sal om enkele dagen op Santo Antao te gaan wandelen.

We kochten onlangs een nieuwe wandelgids "Randonnée en Boucle dans la province de Namur". Vanuit Brussel is Namen net niet zo ver als de Ardennen, maar heeft het toch al meer relief en natuur dan Vlaams Brabant. We probeerden 3 wandelingen uit het boekje en willen er toch twee aanraden.

We hebben 2 weken doorgebracht in Italië. Omdat Ine eens gehoord had van Abruzzo, beslisten we op die streek te gaan verkennen. Heel mooi, maar gezien onze schamele voorbereidingen hebben we nogal wat moeten zoeken naar die mooie plaatsjes.

After being on a side track for a week we decided to go and visit another wow tourist attraction on our way… the Dragon Backbone Rice Terraces.
Described in travelguides as THE must see place in China, especially in October with its spectacular vistas while the rice is stunningly golden. Who would not go there??? So after a week of almost no tourists, we arrived after another busmarathon of 13 hours in Longsheng. (Continue…)
After our first days in Beijing we soon felt like leaving from this city. Although it ain’t that busy and there is nothing wrong with it we have to admit that cities are not our cup of tea.
As our train for Xi’an is only leaving today we were a little bit stuck in the city. So we had to fill another 3 days in Beijing! Soon we decided to go for a 2 days trip to the Great Wall. We left at 6 in the morning with a tourbus to Jinshaling, a quieter and more spectacular place to view the Great Wall than many touristy sites. (Continue…)
  Today we continue where we left off in Ronquières near the inclining plateau. This part of the GR 12 is very pleasant and i would recommend it any sunny sunday walk. Bring along your friends and family, there’s not many hills and you can easily scale the trip to fit your own capacities.
We are blessed with excellent weather on this late September day and a lot of fellow hikers have taken to the paths. The route goes up the canal to the impressive concrete tower and then turns into the fields. It’s harvesting time and the corn fields are waiting for the farmers. (Continue…)
No need to go all that far to experience something unique. For example in Herbeumont (Belgian Ardennes), you’ll walk along an abandoned railway which leads over a bridge and through a pitch black tunnel. When we were there, we were all alone in the tunnel and it’s kind of creepy. Be sure to bring a torch because it’s very wet and there’s a lot of rocks. (Continue…)
