Travelling the world often confronts you with choices… because unfortunately we do not have enough time or money to visit everything we want to. After we travelled to Myanmar, everything became possible. Before we left we planned that after Indonisia we would travel back overland via vietnam, cambodja and laos to myanmar and then back home. Wauw… we only arrived here yesterday morning and I already adore this city! After being welcomed on the airport by the most friendly and smiling people we felt right comfortable in this city. Riding from the airport to the hotel we could immediately notice that this country is different from other Asian countries we visited so far. (Continue…)

What surprised us most is the fact that almost everything that we know as Chinese food in Belgium, actually is Indonesian. You have the typical “belgium chinese take away” dishes like Nasi Goreng, Bami Goreng, Chicken Sweet and Sour, all originated in Indonesia. (Continue…)
After enjoying the art of doing nothing in Bali the last couple of days it is time to start travelling back to Jakarta. As we did not want to fly (why fly and go fast if you can do it slow
, we decided to travel back over land and make a stopover in Solo.
There is not much to see in the center of Solo so we took a guide to show us around the suburbs and their local handicrafts “pabriks”.
Akus (our guide) joined us on a cycling tour to discover several handicrafts.

Have you seen the movie Diarios de motocicleta, which tells the tale of a young Che Guevara travelling through South America with his friend on an old Norton motorbike? It inspired us to do some roadtripping ourselves. Maybe we could be part of some history too? We have spent one month backpacking through China in October 2007. It’s a huge country and one month is certainly not enough to see even the half of it. But still, i think we have a fairly good impression of China (except perhaps the Shanghai area). (Continue…)
