Biking from Leuven to Brussels

This story was posted under the categories: Belgium, Brussels, Mountainbike

Leuven has the woods of Heverlee, Brussels has the Foret De Soignes and i have a mountainbike. So what’s the best thing to do on a sunny summers day? Right, you ask your girlfriend to drop you off in Haasrode (near Leuven) and try to get back to Brussels. Without any map, of course … it would be way too easy otherwise :)

The first couple of kilometers are pretty straight forward and close to the routes i used to ride on, but then, once i enter Nethen, the adventure begins. I’m not going to detail the entire trip here, but i have created a google map of it (see below).

Why is this trip worth riding?

  • An awesome hollow road off the Rue de Hamme-Mille. Taking you up for a short kilometer and bringing you to the highest point of the region, with a breath taking view
  • At the end of a dead end road, you’ll see a field with tractor tracks leading through it. The field is filled with high wheat, but there is no wheat where the tractor drove… catch my drift? Go for it, you’ll end up on a road at the bottom of the valley. I’m not responsable if you get shot at by the farmer ;) But please, stay on the tracks, don’t go driving in his crops!
  • A small piece of forest between Bosrut and Pécrot, cool singletrack all along
  • An untouched, natual park near Ottenburg, where sheep roam freely and bikers are allowed in!

Notice that i got kind of sidetracked and ended up in Wavre instead of Brussels. As from Wavre, i took the main roads, so skip this if you want, there’s nothing much interesting to see here.
