Swimming in Brussels

Brussels has no less than 19 public (indoor) swimming pools, ranging from the very modern to very classic. Here’s an overview of my favorites and the main swimming pools, their prices and official websites.

Piscine d’Ixelles: get that really authentic feeling while you change in a cabin next to the pool. You put a plastic bag around your shoes when you come in and then head into a private changing room, each aligned right next to the pool. You leave your clothes in the room and have to ask the pool master to open the door when you get out.

Espadon (Etterbeek): nicely renovated and modern swimming pool. A bit overcrowded at times, but with a lot of light. You can also take a combined ticket for the pool and the thermes (saune, jacuzzi, hammam) for 10 EUR. If you do this, you’ll have access to the pool beyond the regular opening hours and it’s not uncommon to have the entire pool for yourself!

    unfortunately i don’t know of any swimming teams. The only team i’ve seen “swimming” so far are the aqua-dancers at Etterbeek. They seem to practice almost every day. Might be an idea? :)

    Sport City Woluwe has a swim team…not listed above I think it is just on the Eastern edge of Brussels near Tervuren. Swim team for Masters in French (some English)
