Walking in the dark in Herbeumont

No need to go all that far to experience something unique. For example in Herbeumont (Belgian Ardennes), you’ll walk along an abandoned railway which leads over a bridge and through a pitch black tunnel. When we were there, we were all alone in the tunnel and it’s kind of creepy. Be sure to bring a torch because it’s very wet and there’s a lot of rocks.
To find the bridge and the tunnel, you’ll have to do a bit of exploration. You can use this map as a basis. The bridge is located at number 6, always walk straight ahead and don’t get sidetracked. The guides will try to get you off the road to the tunnel as it is said to be unsafe (disclaimer: you’re doing this on your own risk
). You’ll reach the tunnel after 1-2 kms and you’ll be inside for about 20 minutes. After the tunnel just continue and take a left after about another kilometer and a half. You can then track back through the forst and follow the GR route that runs there.
