The Shame Of Pattaya

It is rather ironical that the end of our trip should bring us to a city such as Pattaya. Those who know a little bit about Thailand will surely know Pattaya’s reputation as a sex paradise. It is indeed the exact opposite of what we have been looking for the last couple of months and in that is might just be the right back-to-real-life place after a long trip.
Pattaya is located at the East side of the Andaman sea, just down from Bangkok. As we arrived at the city we were overwhelmed by the sheer size of it. We had expected a medium-sized tourist town but instead found a bustling metropole where cars zoomed past us and shopping malls and supermarkets are everywhere. This truly is a big difference with the other cities that we visited.
The difference becomes even clearer when we take a look at the people living in it. There seems to be as many foreigners as there are Thai gathered here. If you are looking for a Thai experience, this is certainly not the place. We feel that the locals are really unrespectful towards the Farang compared to the rest of Thailand. And with good reason i might add. The way foreigners around here behave is simply shameful!
Old guys, well passed their prime, are strutting on the streets around half-naked as if they are coming out of the swimming pool. Grayish men, well over 60-ies are walking hand-in-hand with their Thai girlfriend, barely 20. We even saw a guy wash himself with a glass of water in the middle of a restaurant, spilling water all over the floor and his friend looking as if it was the most normal thing in the world.
Fat and rude seems to be the rule here and we can ony agree if the Thai decide to take advantage of these Westerners, mostly men, who seem to be here only for the meat…
It’s a good thing they don’t go venturing further inland, it would only be a tidal wave of perversity.
